By the time I arrived the title sequence and montages of different expressions of gender had been filmed already. We still had to film the scenes between Keira and the Genderbread. As a lot of this was already underway, I instead turned my attention to documentation and attempted to capture the key elements which were being utilized throughout the filming process, as well as documenting everyone in their involvement and the different skills and areas people were getting involved in.
It was fun zipping about around all areas of production and having a little look in on what everyone was doing in several places at once. It was also enjoyable getting the behind the scenes shots and moving about while production was underway; being dynamic and self aware within the environment and to-ing and fro-ing to get the best shots.
Leila found our iconic genderbread man in Sainsburys, which we chose specifically for it's softened, androgenous and passive form and for the variety of decorations which came with it.
By the time I arrived, a small pair of blank white eyes had been added to all four of our genderbead men.
Oliver's prepared script and storyboard were also invaluable documents throughout the process, as the entire project was based of his meticulous vision of the cafe atmosphere and scene. While he and James composed and shot, Emilia worked on the candid varied expressions of gender.
I assisted her with this and we worked on a few concept shots involving selecting between two gingerbread people with very defined genders, and another shot involving a gingerbread Tinder bio.
The shoot went well and we were about finished by 4 oclock. Keira took a starring role in the work, and pulled out skills from acting classes during school to do a great job of talking to a completely ambivalent gingerbread man. We had both her and Jake lined up to come in and record the audio whilst we began to edit to the footage together on Monday. Everything seemed to be going smoothly so far!
