The day before I went in to prepare my colour seperations so that they would be ready on a screen for this workshop. This time I took care to change all the images evenly so that all of the colours would be increased proportionately after learning this from last weeks session.Working around the quadruple A3 screen was difficult as it was almost bigger than me! However once I had gotten it locked into place I actually found the larger flood areas easier to control and keep working cleanly than I had on smaller screens previously.
I printed onto newsprint, as when wheatpasting I often find thinner paper is able to grip into the crevices of uneven surfaces better. I also thought the off white colour of newsprint is quite attractive, and lends a political quality to whatever is printed on it. However as newsprint is not very absorbant, and is very thin, not only did the paper weaken quickly, it also took a long while to dry between layers. Because of this I was not able to work as quickly as I had on previous occasions. I still wanted to create a large number of prints, as I wanted to have as much material to go onto the streets as possible, however because of the paper setbacks I was only able to complete 30 cyan and magenta layers entirely in this session.
There were a couple of interesting failed prints which for one reason or another did not print perfectly, but actually became interesting in their own right. I decided to continue with them instead of throwing them away, and am quite interested to see how they look with the final layers added.
I am really pleased I decided to take my design up to a larger scale as already the work is looking a lot more eyecatching even at this stage, than it did last time. I am looking forward to coming back on Thursday to complete my work!
